About Us

About Us

The Rockton Township Historical Society was formed in 1952

To prevent the demolition of the Stephen Mack home in the Macktown Forest Preserve. There were one hundred Charter Members.

In August 1993 we purchased the house at 529 Green St. for additional museum space. Two additions have been completed; the Carriage House in 1999 and the expansion to that along with the connector to the house in 2003. In honor of our 40th anniversary we placed a commemorative stone and marker at the site of the Talcott log house near the mill race to honor the founder of Rockton.

Special events at Macktown and in Rockton marked our 50th anniversary year in 2002. Surviving Charter Members were recognized & honored. We continue to strive to preserve and interpret the history of Rockton Township with our museum displays and educational programs.

We usually meet the 4th Monday of each month January through October and on the first Monday in December. We invite you to join us for our meetings and/or special events. Our yearly schedule plus information on many of our displays is available on this web site.
